Discovery Channel filming
Orangutan Appeal UK is set to be featured in an 8-part documentary currently being filmed at Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre for Discovery Channel’s – Animal Planet. The series will focus on Orangutan Appeal UK's work in Malaysian Borneo at the renowned Sepilok Rehabilitation Centre.
Charity Founder, Susan Sheward MBE, said “since I first became involved in the conservation efforts of these beautiful apes their numbers have fallen dramatically in the wild from over 100,000 to the latest estimate of just 20,000. Orangutans are among the rarest primates on earth and man’s closest cousins, therefore, awareness of their plight is essential if they are not to be lost forever.”
The Discovery TV series, which is due to be aired next January, is expected to increase the public’s awareness and understanding of the problems which face this great ape and encourage some much needed funding and support.
