Meet Agop
Rescued as a tiny baby, Agop is under the care of our team. You can now support her on her journey back to the wild.
Agop arrived at Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre in June 2022, having been found scared and alone in a plantation. Believed to be around 1 year old, Agop was far too young to fend for herself and without intervention would have surely died.
She was brought to Sepilok to receive the specialist care she needs. Tragically, her mother was nowhere to be found and we'll never know how they became separated.
Having been given time to settle into her new and strange surroundings, she was given a full medical check and was found to be dehydrated. Thankfully though, overall, she was in fairly good health considering her ordeal. The team believed she had not had to fend for herself for long, however the trauma of the separation from her mum will always stay with her.
After a few weeks, the team were able to gently and slowly introduce her to her new family - the other orangutans at the indoor nursery.
Agop is now much more comfortable in her new home and enjoys playing with her friends.
She has a lot to learn and a long journey ahead of her but we'll be supporting her throughout her rehabilitation in the hope that one day she'll return to the wild where she belongs.
