Appeal ambassador Jacha Potgieter took on the challenge of climbing Kilimanjaro to raise money and awareness for the Appeal.
Appeal ambassador and business partner Jacha Potgieter has taken on the challenge of climbing Africa's highest mountain, Kilimanjaro, to raise money and awareness for Orangutan Appeal UK.
Team Alpine is headed up by Jacha, a conservation artist and photographer passionate about helping animals. He and his wife Gwyn run a palm oil free coffee shop in Betws-y-Coed, North Wales called Alpine Coffee Shop and have supported the Appeal since 2014. Team Alpine's other member are cook and coffee shop manager Sue Jones, friend of the coffee shop and artist blacksmith Gerallt Evans, Bryony Buckley who is undertaking work experience with Jacha, and Bryony's mum Dilys Buckley.
This was truly is a monumental challenge; Kilimanjaro is a dormant volcano in Tanzania and the highest mountain in Africa, it rises approximately 4,900 m (16,000 ft) from its base to 5,895 metres (19,341 ft) above sea level. Jacha and the team reached the summit of Uhuru peak on 26th October after a long and tiring six day climb.
Team Alpine’s trip was 100% self-funded and all monies raised will be split between Orangutan Appeal and Ape Action.
