COP28 for a sustainable future
World leaders are gathering to work together on solutions to tackle climate change. Climate action is key to the preservation and protection of all living things on our planet - including the critically endangered orangutan.

Why climate action is needed
The regions of Earth surrounding the Equator - including Malaysia, lost 4.1m hectares of primary rainforest in 2022, an increase of around 10% from 2021, according to figures compiled by the World Resources Institute and the University of Maryland.
The loss of habitat has impacted orangutans by cutting food supplies and dividing up remaining populations in fragmented parts of their rainforest home. Their critically endangered status means that they are facing an extremely high risk of extinction in the wild and as a keystone species, their habitat would suffer significantly further without them.
What is COP28?
COP28, the 28th Conference of the parties, is a critical international gathering convened by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
This assembly of nations, environmentalists, and advocates is dedicated to tackling the urgent issues of climate change, seeking collaborative solutions to mitigate its effects and foster sustainable development on a global scale.
Changes for a sustainable future
We are deeply committed to the protection of orangutans and their natural habitats. COP28 serves as a platform to advocate for policies that address the root causes of deforestation and promote sustainable land use, creating a future where orangutans can thrive in the wild.
Efforts to help orangutans include habitat protection and restoration, anti-poaching initiatives, public awareness, and the rehabilitation efforts for injured, orphaned, and displaced orangutans. By supporting these efforts, we can help ensure the survival of these critically endangered great apes. Learn more about our work on our projects page.
