Business Partner Banana Tree announces pledge to go palm oil free.

Banana Tree Restaurants Ltd is one of our platinum business partners and has donated a magnificent £60,000 to our work.

To coincide with Veganuary, the restaurant chain launched their vegan menu at a private event at their Soho restaurant. They also announced their pledge to only use products and ingredients that contain either no palm oil or only Sustainable Palm Oil with Zero Deforestation, making this a first for a restaurant group.

We were invited to attend and talk about our work and the threats faced by the orangutans. Our senior administrator John highlighted the complex issue of palm oil. He explained that in order to stop deforestation, a switch to sustainable palm oil is preferable to the use of alternative crops that would take out more land space, and that there is a need for greater commitment by food producers all over the world to act in this sense.

The launch event was a great success and our Founder and Chairperson Susan Sheward MBE was keen to thank Banana Tree owners Anne and William Chow for their effort and support.
