Raising awareness and taking action
Held every year on 19th August, the aim of International Orangutan Day is to encourage people to take action to preserve this critically endangered species.
Orangutans can now only be found in small, fragmented populations throughout the rainforests of Borneo and Sumatra.
The main threats faced by orangutans are:
- Habitat Loss and Fragmentation
- Hunting
- Illegal Pet Trade
- Climate Change
